About Us
Clinovate Foundation Uganda is a community-focused innovation organisation developing practical, sustainable solutions to real healthcare challenges in underserved communities.
Who We Are
At Clinovate Foundation Uganda, we believe innovation should solve real problems and reach the people who need it most. We bring together technology, community health systems, research, and local expertise to develop solutions that can improve access to essential healthcare services in Uganda and beyond.
Our work is rooted in a simple principle: technology should be purposeful, affordable, accessible, and designed around the realities of the communities it serves.
Innovation with a Community Purpose
We focus on locally driven innovation that responds to challenges faced by communities and healthcare systems. By combining research, technology, artificial intelligence, and community engagement, we seek to turn ideas into practical solutions that can be tested, improved, and responsibly scaled.
CaviScope: Expanding Access to Cervical Cancer Screening
One of our key innovations is CaviScope, a low-cost, portable and community-centric cervical cancer screening solution designed to expand access to early detection, particularly in remote and resource-limited settings. The innovation explores how technology and community health systems can work together to help identify cervical cancer earlier and reach women who may otherwise have limited access to screening services.
CaviScope has been presented at regional and international innovation platforms, including the 4th EAC Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Conference in Kigali, Rwanda and the Innovation for Healthcare Access 2025 Conference at Rice University in Houston, Texas.
Purposeful Artificial Intelligence
We are interested in AI not simply as an emerging technology, but as a practical tool for solving problems in African communities. Through projects such as CaviScope, we explore how AI can complement community health systems, support earlier detection, improve access to services, and contribute to more inclusive healthcare.
We believe Africa should not only adopt AI, but also help define how it is responsibly developed and applied to address local needs.
Collaboration and Partnerships
Our work is strengthened through collaboration with researchers, healthcare institutions, innovators, and partners who share our commitment to equitable healthcare. Our work on CaviScope has involved collaboration and support from the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI), OxyCare Uganda, and other members of the Clinovate team and innovation ecosystem.
We value partnerships that bring together different forms of expertise and help transform promising ideas into sustainable solutions for underserved communities.
Our Vision
Our vision is to contribute to a future where innovative healthcare solutions are accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live. We aim to build solutions that are locally relevant, evidence-informed, affordable, and capable of creating meaningful and lasting impact.
From Uganda to the wider East African region and beyond, Clinovate Foundation Uganda is committed to supporting a growing ecosystem in which innovation and technology are used not only for what they can do, but for the lives they can improve.
